Sal, Cape Verde
A memorable family holiday on this picturesque island just off the coast of Western Africa. We travelled here during Easter 2017 and would definitely return. The island of Sal is unfortunately extremely poor and economically, relies on tourism and the exportation of salt.
This trip was extremely eye opening as we toured various parts of the island and were exposed to the shocking living conditions Cape Verdean's are accustomed to.
I asked several locals whether I could take their portrait - one man who sold us some bracelets gave me one the most enchanting smiles I have ever seen as I captured his portrait... His happiness despite the awful living conditions there was extremely inspiring. I can't wait to return in a few years.
